Merry Christmas from FunnySpoon to you and yours!
We hope everyone enjoys their time off today and gets to spend it with friends and family. However, the sad truth is that while we're drinking and being merry, 1 billion people will go to bed hungry tonight. The good news is that you can help this holiday season with just a few clicks.
Yep, that's right! Hop on over to our Facebook page and "like" us and we'll donate a meal to a hungry child or adult this holiday season. Already "like" us? Signing up for our emails scores a free meal, too. Already did BOTH? We love you! Why not share with your friends so they can help too?
Happy Holidays!

Check out the latest Q&A in our new Glass of Sass column. We know our sassy fans have questions, and we've already poured a glass of wine so we're ready to fire off some answers!
Got a question of your own? Send it in and we will answer it in a future column!
I read your post about getting in the holiday spirit and now I'm drunk with holiday cheer. I feel like doing something good, helping some people out. Any ideas?
Why yes, we have the perfect idea. First, though, are you sure you're not just, um, drunk? We didn't think our holiday cheer was THAT contagious but apparently it is!
Anyway, we're happy to hear you want to help. We're currently doing a promotion where we donate a meal to a hungry child or adult for everyone who "likes" us on Facebook or signs up to receive our twice-a-month emails. So with just a few clicks you could donate TWO meals to a hungry person this holiday season. Plus, you'll get the latest and greatest from us via Facebook and email, which really is a gift in itself.
Happy Holidays!

FunnySpoon wishes you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving!
While you're gathered around the table saying what you're thankful for, remember that 1 billion people will go to bed hungry tonight. While it's not feasible to invite them to dinner or pack them up with a plate of leftovers, you CAN help with just a few clicks.

No one should go to bed hungry. Yet tonight, 1 billion people will. Shocking, right? So we want to help. For each new person who "likes" us on Facebook or signs up for our emails, we'll provide one meal to a hungry child or adult. Support the cause!

- Starts November 4, 2010 ends December 31, 2010. Each new fan on Facebook and each new email subscriber counts as one (1) new entry. For each entry we will donate one meal to Feeding America.
- If you are already a fan and on our email list, you can still help by spreading the word or donating directly to Feeding America.
- We will announce the final amounts donated during the first week of January 2011.
Today is Blog Action Day and this year's topic is water. We're participating in this event by sharing just a few shocking facts about the world's water usage and supply:
- Unsafe drinking water and lack of sanitation kills more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. Unclean drinking water can incubate some pretty scary diseases, like E. coli, salmonella, cholera and hepatitis A. Given that bouquet of bacteria, it's no surprise that water, or rather lack thereof, causes 42,000 deaths each week.
- Every day, women and children in Africa walk a combined total of 109 million hours to get water. They do this while carrying cisterns weighing around 40 pounds when filled in order to gather water that, in many cases, is still polluted. Aside from putting a great deal of strain on their bodies, walking such long distances keeps children out of school and women away from other endeavors that can help improve the quality of life in their communities.
- The average American uses 159 gallons of water every day – more than 15 times the average person in the developing world. From showering and washing our hands to watering our lawns and washing our cars, Americans use a lot of water. To put things into perspective, the average five-minute shower will use about 10 gallons of water. Now imagine using that same amount to bathe, wash your clothes, cook your meals and quench your thirst.
Want to help? Get on board with one or more of these easy solutions:
- Be more aware of how much water you use. Turn it off when you can, use less where you can. You don't need to put a bucket in your shower to capture reusable water or stop shaving - we're not trying to turn the world into hippies. But maybe take a shorter shower or water your lawn a little less often.
- Donate to water.org. Hey, if Matt Damon's involved, we're interested! And for just $25, you can give one person clean water FOR LIFE.
- Spread the word on your blog or Facebook page, or slap it on a post-it note on your friend's back. Beats "Kick Me" for originality!

Happy Earth Day! You're probably being inundated with tips on how to help Mama Earth today. So we'll make it easy for you and give you three simple ideas, based on the idea of "practice what you preach". We're not exactly the compost heap types, but we do consider ourselves "light green" and try to incorporate greener living in bite-sized chunks every day.1. Go meatless for the day. As we've mentioned before, meat takes a lot more energy to produce than veggies (just think about it - first you have to produce the veggies to feed the animals!) so if you cut meat out of your meals just one day a week you're really helping the earth.
And meatless meals don't have to be tasteless! Check out this easy recipe for Grilled Portabella Sandwiches and enjoy an earth-friendly dinner tonight!
2. If you're a blogger, make your blog carbon neutral by signing up with the Carbon Neutral Blog Initiative. For each blog that joins, they plant a tree to offset the yearly carbon emissions you produce from having a blog. Don't have a blog? Share this info with someone who does!
3. If you send marketing emails or newsletters for work or a non-profit, use Emma Email Marketing. They plant 5 trees for each new customer. We know not all of you are email marketers (otherwise there'd probably be a lot more email in all our inboxes) but you can help by signing up for our emails and keep Emma in business!
If you're busy or can't do these tips then here's the easiest thing of all - go on a walk tonight with your family and appreciate the beautiful spring weather. Happy Earth Day!
At FunnySpoon, we consider ourselves "light-green". We encourage Meatless Mondays and try to promote general eco-friendly actions, but you won't catch us with a bucket in our showers to save the excess water (though, really, we hope you don't catch us in our showers at all!).
So, as part of this, we're joining the "My blog is carbon neutral" initiative. In exchange for us mentioning it on our blog (which we're more than happy to do), Kaufda.de will plant a tree! So if you have a blog of your own or know someone who does, be sure to spread the word!
Have you heard about Earth Hour yet? Hopefully you have ... it's super cool and SO easy to participate!
In short: turn off all your lights for one hour on March 27th (tomorrow!) at 8:30 pm local time. It's a symbolic gesture that we're all working together to have a cleaner, greener earth. And you might save a few pennies from that one hour of not using any lights!
You can read more about the movement at myearthhour.org.
Here's the gist:
On Earth Hour hundreds of millions of people around the world will come together to call for action on climate change by doing something quite simple—turning off their lights for one hour. The movement symbolizes that by working together, each of us can make a positive impact in this fight, protecting our future and that of future generations.
Participation is easy. By flipping off your lights on March 27th at 8:30 p.m. local time you will be making the switch to a cleaner, more secure nation and prosperous America.
FunnySpoon will be participating and hope you will too!
We want to thank you all for helping support our efforts to donate to Toys for Tots. If you remember, in December we promised to donate $1 to Toys for Tots for every new Facebook friend. Well, that led to 217 of you joining the Facebook FunnySpoon Fun and helping out a fantastic cause. Naturally, we rounded up a little bit and donated $300 to Toys for Tots. All the needy children who benefit from your support thank you. And we thank you!
The new year is here! Have some goals (aka: pesky resolutions) for 2010? Make sure you don't fall off the wagon by setting small goals for yourself - you'll be able to see success and stay motivated. Personally, we set quarterly goals rather than big, scary annual goals that seem insurmountable.
So, if you have a goal to eat healthier or eat at home more, then FunnySpoon is here to help. We're kicking off the year (or at least the next three months!) with: SIMPLE meals. SIMPLE prep. SIMPLE success.

SIMPLE support
And, please take a few moments to think about the people of Haiti and do whatever you can to help them. Donate a few dollars, a few hours or even plan a mission trip to help rebuild. Any SIMPLE act of generosity and kindness is needed and appreciated.
Bon Appétit!
Carrie & Vicki
By now you've heard about the devastating earthquake damage in Haiti. We can't even wrap our heads around all the damage, and all the subsequent rebuilding that's going to have to happen. But in the short term it's even worse - people are in immediate need of food, water and medical supplies. We're helping in a few ways and hope you can consider doing the same:
- The easiest way is to text "haiti" to 90999 and you'll automatically donate $10 to the Red Cross International Response Fund. The charge will appear on next month's phone bill.
- If you're outside the US, don't have texts on your phone, or want to help in a different way, you can donate to Heifer International, which helps develop sustainable food programs in impoverished areas around the world. Prior to the earthquake, Heifer International had been supporting 16 projects with more than 16,000 families receiving assistance. That number is sure to grow as Haiti recovers.
- Purchase a Fight Hunger T-shirt from Overlooked for $20 and they will send 50 meals to Haiti. Their goal is to send 50,000 meals - let's help them reach their goal!

If you want to check out the legitimacy of the charities or where your financial contribution will be going please check the Charity Navigator. It's a shame, but there are a number of scams around the relief for Haiti. Please don't contribute to anything that doesn't seem legit. When in doubt, contribute to the Red Cross.
We appreciate your help and support to these causes and know the people in Haiti will be eternally grateful for every single dollar or meal donated.
