World Fair Trade Day

World Fair Trade Day 2009 is Saturday, May 9. Are you ready?

I admit it's hard for me to buy only fair trade products. But I try to do it when I can! If you'd like to do your part for World Fair Trade Day, check out the World Fair Trade Day 2009 website for more information on how you can get involved, or visit the Fair Trade Certified website to see where you can buy fair trade products near you.

Some of the fair trade products you can buy are: coffee, tea, chocolate, sugar, fruit, rice, and wine. And you'll be pleasantly surprised to find that many FT products are sold at your regular grocery (such as Kroger, Safeway, and Wegman's).

Psst! Not sure what Fair Trade means? Here's a snippet from the Fair Trade Certified website:

The Fair Trade Certified™ Label guarantees consumers that strict economic, social and environmental criteria were met in the production and trade of an agricultural product. Fair Trade Certification is currently available in the U.S. for coffee, tea and herbs, cocoa and chocolate, fresh fruit, flowers, sugar, rice, and vanilla. TransFair USA licenses companies to display the Fair Trade Certified label on products that meet strict international Fair Trade standards.

Even if you just go to Starbucks and buy a cup of Cafe Estima, you're helping support fair trade practices around the world. So get out and celebrate!
