Oh, The Sauces You Can Make ...

We all remember grandma simmering her famous homemade pasta sauce for an entire day, making our mouths water every time we passed the kitchen. But a good sauce doesn't have to simmer all day to taste as good as your grandmother's. There are so many varieties and they can be as basic or as complicated as you allow them.

Pasta sauces require simple and common ingredients that you can whip up at any time, which makes them great for busy week nights. They can also be a great way of cleaning out the fridge or pantry. Don't be afraid of using a store bought sauce as a starter for your own. I always keep a basic red sauce in the pantry at all times to start my sauces, but you could also go with a can of chunky tomatoes. Their consistency is great for pasta sauce while pureed tomatoes, which are on the thicker side, are best for pizza sauces.

Another great thing about pasta sauces are that they don't have to just be for pasta. You can serve them as bruschetta for a Friday night, over chicken for a Sunday dinner, or even as a tasty dip at a party! And if you decide to make a big batch or have leftovers, sauces can be refrigerated up to three or four days and frozen for up to three months. Bon appétit!
