Soup is the Answer

If you're anything like me, your jeans are fitting a little tighter after the holidays. No worries - adding some broth-based soups to your diet can help you lose that weight without feeling like you're sacrificing anything. Check this out:

  • Studies have shown that eating broth-based soup before a meal can save you 100 calories throughout the meal because you feel fuller and therefore eat less after the soup. Drinking water can help, but it leaves your system much quicker than soup, so eating a bowl of soup will help you stay full much longer.

  • You might even be able to have JUST the soup for a few lunches per week, which would cut the calories even more. Try one of our recipes below and see for yourself - it really can be a full lunch!

  • It's a great way to get more water in your diet, and we all know how important that is.

  • It's cold out - so cozy up with some soup instead of traditional high-calorie comfort food and you'll feel just as good but with way less calories!

It's Beer O'Clock Somewhere

It's been a long week so let's kick back with a beer-themed Friday night dinner. All you beer-lovers will enjoy this Friday's suggestion!

For dinner: Cheesy Potato & Beer Soup with Beer Bread

To drink: Beer, obviously! We like Amstel Light, but swill whatever brand you prefer!

Fun facts about BEER:

  • Beer is the second most popular beverage in the world, coming in behind tea.

  • To get rid of the foam at the top of beer (the head), stick your fingers in it. (This is also true for champagne!)

  • The oldest known written recipe is for beer.

  • Tossing salted peanuts in a glass of beer makes the peanuts dance. New party trick for the weekend!

  • Many actors started out as bartenders: Sandra Bullock, Bruce Willis, Tom Arnold, Chevy Chase, Kris Kristofferson and Bill Cosby are a few of these. Imagine them serving your beer!

  • American beer is made mostly by rice, unlike the beers of other countries. This was invented to give American beer a lighter taste and tap into the market of women buyers.

  • If you collect beer bottles you are a labeorphilist. Good word to add to the vocabulary!

  • To keep your beer glass or mug from sticking to your bar napkin, sprinkle a little salt on the napkin before you set your glass down.

Enjoy Beer Night!!

BRRRRRRR!!!!

I think it's about 20 degrees below normal everywhere in the US! This is such a frigid start to the new year!

I was planning to write about healthy recipes today (you know, support all of us in our new year resolutions); however, given the weather I've decided to skip the gym & healthy foods today and hiberate with soup and hot cocoa. You should do the same!! I promise to have good, healthy recipes coming your way soon.

Try this Creamy Tater Soup

And follow it up with this Ultimate Hot Cocoa
